Description

You know I love a good story, and this Common Elements commission has one.

At Silicon Valley Comic Con 2018, I stopped by Barbara Kesel's table to show her Carlos Rafael's Common Elements artwork (CE #153: "Foster Children") featuring Ultragirl, a character Barbara co-created. After I explained the Common Elements concept, Barbara was curious to hear about the other pieces in the series. I told her that at that very moment, Matt Haley was drawing a new CE commission a few tables away, featuring the first Spider-Woman and the modern Black Cat.

When I noted that the common element in this new piece was the linked surnames of the characters -- Jessica Drew (as in Nancy Drew) and Felicia Hardy (as in The Hardy Boys) -- Marv Wolfman, who was set up at the table next to Barbara's, commented, "I named both of those characters, and that's why I did it."

That's a really great story about Wolfman, and this is a really nice piece!
