Description
HAIL QUEEN OF THE MUTANTS!: POLARIS/LORNA DANE
VILLAIN: MESMERO. Just look into his eyes if you dare! (Top Center Panel).
1st STERANKO Interior Page.
I wanted to include an X-Men page which could fit within the theme of my collection. I have always been drawn to "fetish" art. I am also fascinated by (graphic or implied) depictions that (IMHO) should not have made it past the CCA censors. My CAF Gallery has many of these examples of fetish art(graphic and implied) which have made it past the CCA (Comic Code Authority).
This X-Men page depicts a fetish which (IMHO) should not have made past the CCA. A young girl/women (1st Appearrance Lorna Dayne/Polaris) held against her will in an unnatural state (mesmerized by Mesmero), contained in a box (Coffin) where she is secreted away and cannot be found. There have been many documented instances over the years of this form of violence being perpetrated against (young) women (GOOGLE: STOCKHOLM SYNDROME for specific cited examples). I would like to point out that I DO NOT CONDONE this behavior or any type of violence ( implied or otherwise, especially toward women or animals) and find it deplorable. None the less it does exist.
Steranko Marvel Comics Original Art is rare and highly in demand. His X-Men Original Art are among the most coveted pieces by collecters in this genre.
Steranko only produced the Covers to X-Men #'s 49,50 & 51 and the interior pages for issues #'s 50 & 51. That is 33 total pages. I know of 1 Cover (#49) and @ 6 interior pages that reside in private collections. These artworks rarely become available in the open marketplace.

Provenance: This Artwork was Authenticated and signed by Jim Steranko (upper right) on 5-6-06 at the Windy City Pulp and Paperback Convention.
Mr. Steranko was the guest of honor.
He will ONLY personalize his signature.
Steranko Original Art is rare. Steranko Original Art with provenance is even rarer.

I possibly may entertain trade for Specific Items on my Want list only.
I would consider trade towards the Covers from:
Zap #1: Crumb, Zap #3: Griffin, Zap #4: Moscoso.
