Description
Jaw-dropping image from Cornishman and Hawkwind roadie and designer, St Austell's Alan Arthurs.
'Death To The Daleks' (Terry Nation, 1973) is one of my favourite third Doctor outings, and here, in Humbrol enamel on perspex, Arthurs has captured the key moment in episode 3 when a root probe from the abandoned City of the Exxilons attacks the Dalek mining operations and their enslaved Exxilons.
But wait! There's more! Arthurs has chosen to represent the BBC production, with the Director (Michael Briant), Jon Pertwee and Lis Sladen enjoying a cup of tea by the production vans, while a quarry crane lifts the root probe prop above the action. High quality meta-psychedelia, conflating Arthur's love of Doctor Who, the Cornish landscape and Airfix model kits. Too gorgeous!

Thank you to Atishoo Gallery, St Austell (https://atishoogallery.co.uk/), and to Alan's son, Owen Wallis (http://www.alanarthursart.com/), and to, of course Alan himself for giving me so much fascinating background on the painting.
