DescriptionCompare the art with the scan of the digest itself up above! This is the original painting published as the cover to Abra-Cadaver, written by M.E. Chaber. While this story is technically book #20 in the Milo March series released by Paperback Library, the story isn't actually about Milo March. In fact the series contains 25 titles, but 5 out of the 25 are only "By the Author of Milo March". The painting exhibits all the usual elements McGinnis is known for: A sexy "McGinnis Girl", a prop of some sort, a period or antique piece of furniture (in this case the felt bean bag chair), and a tough guy with a gun! Speaking of whom, notice that the male model in this case is not the famous actor James Coburn, whose likeness McGinnis used without permission. I personally like the 'Coburn covers', simply because Coburn had a great, rugged look to play the tough guy. On the other hand though, it can also be somewhat distracting at times to look at the art and see James Coburn staring back at you. The male model here is unknown, but has a great look. You can just hear him saying "Dance for me, girl!" as he quietly watches the beauty do her dance, as he casually sips his drink and keeps his gun handy in the other hand. As ever, McGinnis' technique is exquisite. From the soft flesh tones on the female, to the pink feathers she's holding, on to the thick, knitted sweater the man is wearing, down to the soft, felt of the bean bag chair, all the different textures are incredibly lifelike. I just recently started researching McGinnis artwork and love it, especially his James Bond posters. Great example of his work! Congrats!
