Description

This commission is so special it’s hard to eloquently put into worlds why. The comic it’s based on, God Country is a masterpiece that hit me like bolt of pure Kirby Krackle. It was a beautiful story that left me speechless and in tears and was the story I needed right here, right now as I continue to miss and grieve my Dad.
I met Donny Cates at SDCC near the Image booth. I told him how much God Country meant to me and how it helped me after the death of my father. He slowed things down and really let me talk when he easily could have rushed me. He then thanked me, signed my God Country HC, and gave me a hug and he told me “as long as we have Valofax we never forget.” It was a poignant moment I never expected to have at a comic convention. I will always treasure it.
Through fortunate circumstances and a little luck I got onto Geoff’s list. I asked for a poignant moment between Emmett and Roy. Geoff delivered a masterpiece. I knew artist Geoff Shaw was attending SDCC and possibly sketching. We discussed a piece that is a slight tweak on a beautiful moment for the book. I won’t lie when it was revealed to me I almost started to cry as it moved me so deeply.
A treasured piece of my collection and a wonderful surprise. I am so grateful to have this moment from this wonderful story that affected me on so many levels. And to have the good fortune to thank Donny Cates in person for all his hard work in creating the comic was terrific. Thank you to Felix Comic Art for helping me acquire such a beautiful piece and to Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw for creating something so special.

God Country will be on bookshelves as long as there are bookshelves, and rightfully so. It and The Vision were the emotional 1-2 punch of the decade, and it was the stage of the rocket where Cates & Shaw left earth orbit. Great piece - it's got it all.

Hands down the absolute best commission coming out of SDCC, and one of the best all year. What a fantastic idea. I get choked up looking at it. Congratulations, I’m so happy for you.

I seriously have a hard time not tearing up when I look at this.

I come back to it often - it’s one of the best pieces of 2018 hands down.

Thank you so much!!! Geoff really created something special with this piece. I was lucky enough to get a page of God Country earlier this year and I go into detail as to why it’s so special to me. If you have a moment to read the description I highly recommend it.
