DescriptionLatest arrival in my inbox - the cover for All-Star Squadron #70, based on the cover of the Roy Thomas-written Avengers #83, and drawn by the amazing Chris Ivy (who long-time readers might also remember did the cover of the All-Star Squadron Handbook for me late last year). In story terms - this is the start of the All-Star War, which runs through issue #75. Wonder Woman goes to check on progress of investigations at the War Department into the rockets used to shanghai various JSA members into space in All-Star Comics #13 (All-Star Squadron issues #50-60) - and a flashback will show how the Spectre and Johnny Thunder's Thunderbolt returned the rockets to Earth. Arriving, she finds that scientists have discovered a cocoon within one of the rockets, which bursts open, revealing one of the Venusian women WW encountered in that adventure, and who had sought shelter in the crashed rocket only to be brought to Earth and transformed by the effects of the Spectre and Thunderbolt's magic. Elsewhere, a mysterious figure (revealed in due course to be Wotan) taps into the power of the still-buried Medusa masks to influence Wonder Woman, the newly-named Krysalis, and other female Squadron members - Firebrand, Phantom Lady and Mary Marvel - into attacking the JSA HQ, where they defeat JSA-ers Sandman, Starman and Spectre, plus visiting hero Quicksilver, before heading off to find other heroes to battle.... I couldn't resist this one, and particularly not the chance to bring in Krysalis, who Roy mentioned as a potential future member of the Squadron in the second volume of All-Star Companion. I imagine he'd have come up with something more creative than I have, but then, he's a professional comics writer.... Social/Sharing |

Two problems with that - Doll Girl doesn't make her first appearance until 1951, so is out of scope for a series set in 1942 (though who knows what night happen if I do a time travel storyline, he said with an evil grin) - and Showcase 95 didn't have any input from Roy Thomas, and all these All-Star Squadron covers are based on comics written, plotted or scripted by Roy. So nice idea, but I'm afraid that's not going to happen.
