Description

Karate Kid vs. Robin by Chris Burnham and Simon Gough

I can't remember what comic I first saw Chris Burnham's art in, but I do remember that the first time it blew me away was when I read Officer Downe, an over-the-top masterpiece he did with Joe Casey. Later, I watched as Chris's skills became even more impressive when he hooked up with Grant Morrison on Batman Incorporated and Nameless. Also, Chris earned a lot of points with me when he did a Munden's Bar story with John Ostrander. So yeah, I've been wanting a commission from Chris for a long time, and I finally got to set up one through Felix Comic Art (who were once again a pleasure to work with). I chose Damian Wayne as the opponent for this one, because I love the way Chris draws him. I've had a few fun interactions with Chris on Twitter before, and when I told him about the commission on there, he insisted that Damian would win, because he knows how I am about Karate Kid. I think that everybody knows how I am about Karate Kid at this point! Then Chris delivered this awesome commission, knowing he'd get me riled up! But I love it! It's gorgeous, and look at that Zipatone! And Karate Kid's wrist bands! And the hair! I love it all and it made me laugh when I saw it. Then Simon Gough got his talented hands on it and made it look even better with some terrific colors! Big thanks to Felix for setting this up, and to Chris and Simon for the stellar work they put into it!

First I'll let Chris tell you how he thinks the fight would go: "I’m sorry to say Damian kicked him so hard that Karate Kid was instantly knocked out. Damian then buried him up to his neck in concrete and is currently giving him wet willies and oogie oogies." *ahem* No. Now, I could see Damian getting one hit in, because Val Armorr might think that he's just a little kid, and probably isn't too much of a threat. But after that, Damian's gonna get spanked, and taught a lesson in true martial arts mastery. And that little snot deserves it.

If you like this piece then please do go buy some books featuring Chris's work in either physical or digital format and/or go commission him yourself.

KK would have to be asleep to lose to Damian. :)

Excellent commission. I met Chris at SDCC when he came as Tony Fleecs "plus 1" for dinner. Nice guy and a heck of an artist.

This is one where KK needs to take Damien to the woodshed
