Description

Some advertising art, with a bit of a history. Back in the early 1990's, a friend of mine was getting ready to sell his comic shop, and open up a mail order/convention business. He was still attending trade shows though, and at one of those shows he met Jeff Smith, who was promoting his newly-released BONE comic. He made an offer to Jeff to place an order for the comic to carry in his shop, if he drew a quick logo he could use for his new business, "Troll and Toad". To show how much Jeff wanted to promote book sales, he drew a quick troll to be used for business cards, banners, etc. I helped the owner working at conventions for many years, and he turned it into a successful business. Fast forward a decade or so, and he was having his employees clean out his art collection by putting it for sale on eBay. I saw this Smith sketch go up for sale, and I gave him a call and said "I'm calling dibs!". He had his people pull the sketch down and sold it to me, so I have a rarity in the market, actual published Jeff Smith artwork. It looks like just a quick convention sketch. but since I helped Jon (the owner) for so many years, it has a special history for me. Who else can say they have a piece of art Jeff Smith drew for a company they worked for? :-)
