DescriptionAnother great page from Alpha Flight 15 which I bought at the same time as the other one I own.John Byrne has said many times he was not satisfied with his work on AF and that he did not succeed to achieve what he had in mind. I personally loved it when I first read it and having read it again with the eyes of an adult in the recent omnibus edition, I can proudly say I still do. Byrne writing and penciling (/inking?) has always been a great reading experience. Prior to relaunching Namor in his own title, Byrne made great use of him in AF. Here we have Namor fighting his love, Marina, possessed by her feral instincts awoken by the evil Master. The Master (in civilian gear) is quite ominous here, especially the third panel which offers a great facial close up. The last panel is obviously the main attraction here as I find that the tension of the fight between the two lovers is exceptionally rendered. From their body position and anatomy which is spot on and realistic to the splashes of the water around them. Mention to the little (isn’t that a pleonasm?) fallen Puck in panel 2. While the other page I own is clearly the better of the two, I’m very glad I made the decision to buy two of them at the time. This is part 3 of my 2019 CAF B-day party. See you tomorrow. Indeed a beautiful and big piece. Has it all: nefarious close up of the Master, Namor and Marina fighting, Byrne, what else...
That first panel is really classy and the pose adds a more than convincing verisimilitude to the scene. Namor and Marina fighting in panel 2 gives the smooth impression that they're engaged in a dance of some sort whose violence and energy erupt later in panel 4. Really beautiful.
Not really fan of Wiacek's ink though, but to each his own, right?

Thanks for your comment, Nick ;)
Not super fan of Wiacek either here. Seems sloppy in places even though it works well on the close up.
