DescriptionA fantastic page from Alpha Flight 15 by John Byrne and Bob Wiacek.I was able to take part of the dismembering of that complete issue when it came for sale last year. I may be biased but to me, this page is the very best of the issue. Even though Byrne has said on numerous occasions he was not satisfied with his work on Alpha Flight, I love his run on the title and having reread it recently, I think it still holds up quite nicely to the passing of time. We have Namor soaring at full speed from the sea. The third panel is simply perfect. Byrne managed to portray his imperius rex persona with a touch of worry for his lover. He is sure of himself and haughty like he should be. The fourth panel is not bad either with a different perspective. I really like how Byrne drew water still coming out of him in flight. As always, Byrne’s storytelling is crystal clear and super fluid (pun intended). While not as good as Austin’s inks, Wiacek did a good job at following and respecting Byrne’s line. The involvement of Namor in Alpha Flight was clearly an early taste of the work Byrne would produce on his own serie and this is a great example of it. Some would prefer Byrne’s work on Alpha Flight to his work on Namor. I would agree but I still like both even though Byrne’s last third on Namor I find sloppy. This was a big purchase for me last year. Exciting and expensive. Be warry though of sellers who sell pages from this very issue marked 2 times and a half the original asking price (which was already hefty). Quite the mark up within less than a year. Those may not be angels indeed ;) This is part 5 of my 2018 CAF b-day celebration. Social/Sharing |

I think Byrne drew Namor damn near better than any other artist save K I R B Y. I love this page. You have a right to brag as this is artistry at it's zenith. Love love love the page! Congratulations!!

Can’t get much better for a Namor Page than this! Byrne with multiple action shots in different scale - sweet! Congrats!

It’s my all time fav Byrne page involving Namor. Heck it's the best Namor page and art he did. I’ve loved this art ever since it came out so much so I blew comic page up into a poster. I’ve lived my entire life close to where these panels take place along shores of Lake Ontario bordering Toronto, Canada. Namor swooping out from the depths of the lake with such grace and power with the perfect dialogue to introduce this seldom seen being. It’s my absolute grail Namor page second only to wanting an original vintage Everett Subby! I’m extremely envious . Congratulations

This is one of my favorite pages. I love how John draws the Sub-Mariner.

Wow, such a cool & memorable Byrne Namor/AF page, wonder if he was inspired by Pérez here, Imperius Rex!

Interesting. Where do you see Perez in this? I can see some in the first two panels but Byrne's layouts and storytelling always breathed more than George's.

Not seeing Pérez--I just couldn't help but wonder if George's iconic Namor page from Avengers #155 inspired Byrne here, I mean that looks inspired to me!
