Description

I had seen Matias's work in other CAF galleries and so I reached out to him about doing an addition to my Dragon Lady gallery. He hails from South America and the birth town of Alberto Breccia who he tells me has had a huge influence on all the comic artists of this area. It turns out he is extremely knowledgeable and well versed in comic strip, European comic and North American comic book art. We threw in Corto Maltese for fun as I like how artists who understand the characters and their history interpret the dynamics between these two archetypes. Very easy artist to work with, organized and punctual and a pleasure to talk with. I am not sure if the lesser know Corto Maltese print with the dagger seen below in additional images was the inspiration for this piece or not but regardless, a nice tip of the hat to Pratt and Caniff.

I noticed something very interesting in the scan, the bright orange of the inside of the Dragon Lady's dress didn't scan so I took a digital photo (see other images) to see this. Not sure what happened but rescanning had the same results even at different dpi and file format settings. Clearly I don't know enough about the scanner settings and it makes me wonder what else my scanner has missed in the past.

So much to love here. The colors, the expressions, the actual designs of the figures and the overall elegance. Just wonderful!

Ps. Feel free to switch the images and make the phone pic the main image. The orange version is far superior!
