Deans Gold Medal Farm Book 1963 Summer - Collecting Eggs scene
Written by Arthur Groom,..
Illustrations by J B Long, but I can't find what J B stands for.

This page the cheery task assigned to a couple of kids to collect some eggs. The chickens don't seem that fussed.
The kids do look like they have warped in from a 1920's annual ;-)

The art in the book is darker and less detailed.
