DescriptionWhat a beauty by Dan Smith, master illustrator from the early 20th century who is finally getting the recognition he deserves. I wont wax poetic here, but just point out the obvious - that this is an artist firing on all cylinders, working at the peak of his skills. And that lion? Breathtaking. Art was published in the Atlanta Constitution on April 9, 1933, and titled, Romance and Near Tragedy in Ancient Babylon. Large art (image is 24 x 21), on heavy art board.Social/Sharing |

Gorgeous. I am seeing more and more of his stuff and I think he was overlooked. A wonderful illustrator.

Amazing. I see a bit of Mucha and a bit of Leyendecker. Going forward, of course, we get Frazetta, Cochon, Jeff Jones...

Great looking art by an artist that I think is starting to get more recognition for not only his skills but his influence.

Agreed! As one example, it is known that Dan Smith and George Herrriman were good friends, hung out with each other, and shared a love for the West. Amazing that Dan Smith disappeared from the public eye for so long.

Fantastic!!! Another great example of Dan's work. He worked for some 40s years as an illustrator but so little of his originals still exist. You have a true gem. Congrats!!!!
