Description“Hail Caesar” (December 9, 1958)By Eddie Germano (1924 - ) 11 x 15 in., ink and wash on board A native Bostonian, Germano became a full-time cartoonist in 1948, at age 24, after serving in WWII. Among other positions, he worked as the editorial and sports cartoonist for the Brockton Enterprise from 1963-1990. Sid Caesar was an iconic comedian of early television (Your Show of Shows, 1950-54). Chevrolet sponsored a series of one-off variety specials (The Chevy Show), and one featuring Caesar and his cronies was broadcast on November 2, 1958. I like the commentary about television scraping the bottom of the barrel for entertainment. Ha. Hah. Ha. If they only knew just how dismal things could get. Social/Sharing |
