Description
With Halloween right around the corner I thought I’d post a piece that was kinda Halloween-y. Dreams/nightmares, boogeymen, etc., all part of the Sleepwalker (SW) narrative, y’know? Or maybe you don’t – SW isn’t the most known character but I think some fellow youngins of the ‘90s may recall!

And SW is definitely a ‘90s product. A time with a lot of new characters and series showing up at Marvel like SW, Darkhawk, etc. I liked the SW title because I thought it was unique. The character was only out do gooding while his host, Rick Sheridan, slept, so settings were mainly at night and the character’s warping power made for some cool visuals. And Bret Blevins was the initial artist, who I love, so yeah, REALLY cool visuals.

This cover is by Art Nichols, who actually didn’t do any interiors but did a string of sweet covers, this being my fave. So it was a target for me in this past June’s ComicLink auction. Here SW and comrades are trapped by the villainous Cobweb, SW’s main antagonist. I liked that both main hero and main baddie were here, but mostly how the “trapped in webbing” scene was done. You got Cobweb big and bad in the background, head behind the title lettering, but with his hands and webs coming through it! Really adds a 3D effect and ups the creepiness factor. Got a great shot of SW front and center trying to break free, and I love how some of the web is colored with white ink, giving a translucent look to it.

Hope y’all like this nice ‘90s throwback cover! Now I just gotta get a nice Blevins published SW piece (I have a commission of SW by him) and I’ll be set! Have a happy Halloween next week!

Oh wow! I don’t know how I missed this one (and I’m suuuuper jealous haha), but I’m glad it landed in the collection of a fellow Sleepwalker fan.  Congrats!!

You know what I hadn’t thought about that, John, but that’s definitely true now that I think back!  Just worked, right?!  Subject matter definitely lends itself to some crazy mad cover images!  Thanks the observation, and comment!

These were such memorable covers at that time and still are now! I loved Blevins take on the character as well. Such a cool character design overall. Also liked that the stories took place at night. Thanks for sharing this great image!
