Okay, I admit, this does not really match my central theme (artists and the characters I associate with them). However, it cracks me up.
Blacksad is a classic noir detective in an anthropomorphic world. In this image, that hardboiled cat finds himself stuck in a box with a bunch of free kitties. I just makes me smile everytime I look at it.
Andy submitted two pieces to the
Baltimore Comic Con yearbook. One, a commission, was picked. The other, this one, missed the cut, but was offered at the auction. Frankly, the other one is good (see the additional images), but it's pretty typical of the rest of the art in that book. This piece is a standout! Very few in the auction were as appealing to me.
As for the auction, I found myself bidding against a friend so I stopped. Turned out he was just trying to increase the bid for the charity. Sigh... I bought it from him for the last bid. :)
