This artwork has been kept in storage for decades. It took me a long time to get it, so I'm super happy to share it with you.

Like some of you might know, Bacon and Reneric were the art directors that came up with Struzan's classic BTFF poster. But before that, they worked with a few of their artists to explore concept possibilities. Struzan did a few comps (all of them spectacular, you can see most of them on "The Art of Drew Struzan" book), but they also had incredible artists like Farrell and Nelson working on the first round of poster concepts that was to be presented at the studio. This was one of those pieces. And a special one; it features Marty coming out of the Delorean, which is the concept the studio ended up picking (with variations, as we can see in Struzan's iconic final poster for the film).

The agency held an exhibit of their work at Brea Civic Cultural Center Gallery from June 22 to July 26, 1985. The name of the exhibit was "Dreams for Sale", and they published a 64 page book back then with examples of their work and the creative process. This piece was featured on that booklet (see additional pics). The book is pretty obscure, but Struzan fans may be familiar with it, and a copy pops up at ebay every now and then.

Tight graphite pencil drawing on a thin gesso ground, then color and texture added by thin glazes of acrylic mostly airbrushed over the graphite, and then detailed with prismacolor pencils. The title is a print, spray glued on top of the wax rubdown blue (see additional pic).
