DescriptionStuart Immonen (with Wade) may be (one of?) the best modern storyteller(s)s in the industry (worldwide?) nowadays and there is no discussion possible that his Cap & X-Men work represented YET another plateau he reached to establish his crown. The main attractions here for me were Baron Blood and Red Wing. To anyone of my generation (or anyone else who has read it) the (way too short) Cap’ America run by Roger Stern & John Byrne is legendary. The high point of that run to many is the England team-up with Union Jack to “defeat” Baron Blood, the ignominious Vampire. I fell in love with this run and character then. Red Wing is an animal and I simply love them all, plain and simple. Any animal oriented story is bound to at least attract me. Now about the page itself. The first panel is exceptional in the way Stuart choose to draw Baron Blood taking flight. The way he is crouched makes him look feral and dangerous, as he should be. Then you can really feel his dematerialization and his speed taking off. The fact that half of his body is flying off panel also adds to the urgency. This panel was the main attraction of the page for me. The following three panels are extremely tense as you really feel for poor Red Wing. This really was a GASP moment for me when I read the story. The fact that Stuart chose to zoom in in this sequence from second to fourth panel also adds to the overall tension of the scene (on top of the speed lines). The last panel I must confess finding surprisingly a bit static despite the speed lines. FalCap’ seems like he is simply hanging there. It could have been a bit more dynamic. That being said, it’s just to cherry pick as the expression on his face really convey his extreme concern for his friend and it’s a full body shot of the hero so it’s still nice. Social/Sharing |

That's another beautiful page to your collection. I agree, I also found that last panel a bit weak, probably in comparison with all the storytelling greatness from previous panels, as the rest of the page is indeed splendid. Love the zoom in that accompanies the sense of impending horror of the character being eaten alive. And that first panel is indeed quite original. Although we've already seen such storytelling solutions in the medium in the past, I find however that Stuart particulary succeeded in rendering that transition/jump original and Baron Blood's body language. Congrats!!!

You know how to pick 'em. Great stortelling example and I love the movement throughout the page, panel to panel, as well as in panel. The big set up for page 20! Congrats, man!
