DescriptionHere's a set of items I picked up toward the end of 2019, a hand-drawn image of Milton Caniff's good bad-girl Burma on the back of a room service menu from The Waldorf Astoria dedicated to Charlie Cushing from Nov. 6, 1944.Charlie Cushing was not only a friend of the Duke of Windsor, he also worked for Marshall Field. He's the mysterious man Caniff met in 1944 at The Waldorf Astoria, who brought him to Marshall Field. That's where the deal for Caniff's new strip was hammered out. In early November 1944, Caniff was meeting with Field's people at the Waldorf to negotiate the particulars of his contract. The drawing of Burma must've taken place at one of those meetings.
