The Legion of Substitute Heroes by Gene Gonzales

Gene posted his work-in-progress of this Subs piece on his Patreon and I was immediately interested. I asked if he would be willing to sell it when he was done, and a short while later, the transaction�was done and the finished piece was in my hands! The Subs got an updated look from Mike Grell way back in the 1970's, and though most of these costumes did not last long, they were interesting. I particularly liked Chlorophyll's Kid's costume. And I can see that having Stone Boy show more skin would be better for displaying his stone form, but his original costume is still my preference. Night Girl's outfit definitely goes along with most of Grell's other costume designs, with sex appeal being the name of the game! Anywho, I'm glad that Gene decided to draw the Subs from this era, as I did not have a commission featuring these looks yet. And of course Gene is a master of drawing Legionnaires! They all look happy to be flying into action, and I really like the perspective on their headquarters. And the color work is outstanding! Thanks, Gene!

This is sweet and I so agree with your take on the costumes. That Grell story of course focused on the Subs inheriting the old rocket clubhouse, so it's a great backdrop. The angles, the smiles, there is a real sense of lightness about it
