I don't recall every seeing this as an ad. Pretty funny. But the concept must've been too subtle. Way back when, Continuity had this contract for Camel cigarettes. It sure was a different time.

Me either. I believe they said it was rejected. It was definitely a different time.

This was created for the never-finished Smooth Magazine 2, which was a mini-magazine that would have been included popular adult-oriented magazines such as People. The theme was film spoofs. This image is "Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Smooth." Because of the high advertising cost, the magazine concept was eventually scrapped, BUT a lot of the finished art was printed on a series of "Camel Productions" matchbooks so that they didn't go to waste. This image was indeed finished and printed!
The flavor text on the inside of the matchbook reads: "Playing two parts was a real challenge. Dr. Jekyl smoked Camel Lights, and Mr. Smooth smoked Camel Ultra Lights. If you look real close at the last scene, you'll see Joe has pulled a prank. He has both characters smoking Camel Filters." Back of the matchbook has a few incidentary character names as director etc., all with the last name Camel.

Thanks for the info! Adds a lot of context. Now to find the matchbook. Thanks again.
