Description

I bought this from the Sparling family -- it is the original front cover for "JOE, THE GENIE OF STEEL #1" which was printed by US Steel in 1950 (14 x 23) and featured Joe Magarac, the decades long symbol of U.S. Steel. Art by Jack Sparling.
The published cover is a bit different -- see published comic in additional images below. The family knows Jack's first illustration was printed but don't know if it was ONLY for the very first print run that it was used OR if that print run was destroyed and the altered cover was used.
Any help -- anyone ever see a published version of the original art?

Wow! Published or not, this is an amazing piece of comic art history. The image is ridiculously cool. Love Joe the Genie lifting the factory building! I actually like the pose here better than the published version. Congrats!
