DescriptionVittorio Accornero, Pinocchio. Acquerello su cartone, cm 30x24.Vittorio Accornero was born in 1896 in Casale Monferrato. He starts studying at the “Leardi” school but he will be eventually forced to leave school due to the beginning of the First World War. His art blossoms during the first post-war, at the time he autographs his artworks simply as Ninon In 1919 and in 1924 he realizes illustrations for the “Giornalino della Domenica”, even with his first wife Edina Altara, and for “Arditae La Lettura”. In 1923 “El Hogar di Buenos Aires” magazine announces a contest for covers and Accornero wins the competition. In 1925 in Paris is held the International Exhibition of Decorative and Modern Industrial Art, and he wins the golden medal thanks to his pochoir. In 1934 Accornero moves to Milano. He does illustrations for about 60 books, from Andersen, Perrault and Grimm tales, to Poe’s novels, other than the very famous “Pinocchio” and “Cuore” published by Mondadori, Mursia, Hoepli, Martello. Several Accornero’s books were published in French, Spanish, German and English. From 1935 to 1947 he pursues a career in theatre, he works on scenographies and customs for several operette, ballet and representations at the Scala. In the 40’s and in the 50’s he writes and illustrates six books for children by working for Mondadori. Famous his illustrations for “Fiabe di Perrault”, published by Hoepli back then. Dino Buzzati, journalist, writer and painter, writes two pages about Accornero’s exhibitions in 1959 and 1963 on “Domenica del Corriere”. From 1960 to 1981 he collabs with Gucci by designing about 80 foulard and among these ones the very famous Flora, realized in 1966 for Grace Kelly. He dies in Milano in 1982. Social/Sharing |
