This illustration is not totally accurate as the alien in the story Little Brother in the August 1958 Original Science Fiction Stories is totally hairless like Marvel's later Watcher and surprise he is a Watcher sent to observe but never interfere with work- part of a corps of Watchers who do that for their planet.
Hi life changes when he breaks his code and saves 4 people from a plane crash in the ocean. Real inspiration for the Watcher or a coincidence we will never know the answer
