Description

(Walter Lantz) Woody Woodpecker was created by Walter Lantz in 1940, in the vein of other screwball characters, like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck (both of whom Lantz had worked on previously). Over the last 80 years he has become an icon of Universal Studios and appeared in hundreds of theatrical shorts and television cartoons.

This 3-cel setup on its key hand-painted master background is from the theatrical short "Hi-Rise Wise Guys" which debuted on August 1, 1970. It later aired on television for years in The Woody Woodpecker Show. It features Woody himself causing mischief on a construction site, much to the chagrin of the foreman, Jack Hammer. Jack, Woody, and the number of accidents sign each appear on their own cel. It's really tough to find complete setups for Woody!

As was often the case in the era, this setup is re-used several times in the episode.
