Description

Dark Horse published a lot of great stuff during their two decades helming the Star Wars comics. One of the Dark Horse covers that got my attention was Droids #3 by artist Kilian Plunkett. When I saw it back in the mid 90�s, I initially thought it was a badass incarnation of C-3PO, armed and dangerous. Did C-3PO get reprogrammed to be an assassin droid? It turned out to be a new character named C-3PX. This character was later retconned to become Darth Maul�s evil droid.

I acquired the original Droids #3 cover art from Wildstorm Fine Arts back in 1998. About ten years later, I ended up getting this prelim from Kilian. You can see the finished painting HERE in my gallery.

The pencil prelim in on 14" X 17" illustration board, with the image area measuring 10" X 15".
