Description

I've been buying great Gil Kane art whenever I can find it. This iconic drawing was originally the cover to the fanzine RBCC # 94 and was also published in an issue of the Collector, both in 1972. Interestingly, the image is pretty much the same as the first Marvel issue Marvel Premiere #1 from later that year. This drawing may be the first finished work and model sheet for the iconic first Warlock cover! The 'Bill' he dedicates it to is Bill Schelly the publisher of The Collector fanzine and renown in the hobby since then for his informative histories of the hobby.

When I was a kid reading comics, I never paid attention to the names on the title page. Really the only one I always noticed was the big STAN LEE PRESENTS at the top (or the bottom) of each story. Until I discovered Gil Kane, that is. From then on, every new GIl Kane story became an instant favorite. Iconic drawings like this are the reason why.

I've always loved this image and was bummed to see this piece get snapped up when it showed up for sale. Ugh! But happy it went to a good home--beautiful and historic. Congrats!
