DescriptionThe Superman studies are full of energy and mass. In person, they are even more impressive because the page is very large and the flowing streaks of black ink dramatically pop out of the page (especially that cape!!!). From conversations that I had with other collectors that owns similar pages, it seems that Darwyn used a pad of distinctively tall-sized paper to work out the inking of his New Frontier Superman.Enjoy! I don't know the exact history of this piece, but Albert Moy was/is Darwyn's art rep and it seemed like Darwyn sent Albert prelims, etc. Albert now works with the Cooke Family/Estate for the sale of Darwyn's work posthumously. I know that part because he's told me in person. In 2019 Albert told me that the Cookes have handed over everything they think will get an audience, but I keep seeing fresh stuff pop up on Moy's site every now and then. Oh, and this is a cool piece.

Hello John, Thank you for the information. I think that your theory is likely and that it could very well have been passed on to Albert Moy by the Cooke estate. Especially since it was not signed, I do not think it was done as a convention sketch or commisssion. What I do know is that it was owned by two well-respected collectors on CAF and prior to them, Anthony Snyder. I was told by the collector that bought it from Anthony that questions had been raised about whether the artist Dave Bullock might have had a hand in this sketch since they had similarities in styles and had collaborated. Mr Snyder contacted Dave Bullock directly and Mr Bullock confirmed that this Superman study was ALL Darwyn. I let the trail of origins grow cold there. John, you have inspired me to start asking more questions again.
