DescriptionSean Murphy has been doing some amazing work with his White Knight series, and even though this page doesn't include any of the more popular characters (like Joker, Harley, or Batman), this might be my favorite image from the series.I remember first seeing this splash on CAF before I had even read the issue, and I loved how dramatic and romantic the moment was. Mr. Freeze has one of the more tragic stories in Batman lore (in part, due to the animated series), and the level of emotion on display here is just palpable, between Nora floating in her cryofreeze chamber and Victor looking defeated with his fist on the glass. Even if you don't know what's happening around this moment, it perfectly captures the tragedy that is Victor Fries. The page was sold before the rest of the issue was available (for what I thought was a lot at the time) and didn't think I'd ever own it ("I don't need it," I'd tell myself). I considered buying one of the other Freeze pages in the issue, but they didn't impact me the same way this did. This page changed owners a few times, and I'm beyond excited to finally own it. Thank you so much, Ed! Social/Sharing |

Tremendous page. I remember when it was for sale the first time in Sean's portfolio at NYCC. Its stunning in person...the inkwash adds so much texture when contrasted against the starkness of the machines, and Nora is impeccably drawn.

Completely agreed. I can't believe I didn't even get into the technical work, but it is stunning- the contrast in light and linework between the chamber/Nora and the world outside, and the mist/lighting effects are just superb.

Fantastic page from a fantastic series! Congratulations, so glad your patience paid off and it found it's way to you.... eventually. Feel like it's so rare that a page you've wanted finds it's way into your arms.
And if I remember right it was also used as the cover (maybe to the French softcover?)

Thanks! I wasn't aware it was used as a cover for anything (I only know Sean made it into a print), but I also can't find it if it was. However, I just found out there was a B&W French hardcover release (using a DPS with the Batmobiles as the cover), and now I need it, even if the text is all in French.

Thanks! This is one my favorite images from the series, and I'm still in disbelief that I get to stare at this every day.

Tragic and yet beautiful. Sean Murphy is so good at conveying emotion in his work, it's one of the things that sets him apart.

THIS is the best page Murphy has done in ANY Batman series in my opinion. So powerful. Brilliant.

Amazing piece. Nothing better than when a page you thought had eluded you finds its way to you.

Congrats for this incredibly beautiful splash. A whole story in itself and imho the best page of the already classic series.
