DescriptionFinding Jim Valentino Guardians of the Galaxy covers is no easy task, so when this piece came up in a ComicLink auction a few years back, I was all over it.Here he draws a great full team portrait of the original Guardians of the Galaxy for the cover of 1990's Overstreet Price Guide Update #14. He created this piece to promote the first ever "Guardians of the Galaxy" title that came out that same year with issue #1 (see additional photo). Included are founding team members Vance Astro, Charlie 27, Martinex and Yondu plus later team members Starhawk, Aleta and Nikki. The original Guardians are based 1,000 years in the future of the Marvel Universe and were first introduced in 1969's Marvel Super-Heroes #18. Starhawk and Aleta were introduced during a 1975 Defenders story and Nikki came along when the Guardians had their own mid-1970s series in Marvel Presents. So happy to share this one! Congrats Paul! This makes three Valentino GOTG covers if I'm not mistaken? (unless you have #12 or 18 hidden away?)

Oh, fabulous! Look how many characters are present! I going only by memory, but I think this is 2nd in cover content quality only after the cover to issue #1. Do we know exactly when this one went on sale? Does it precedee the first issue, or didd it come out while the series had already started?

Well, you know how I love me some multi-character covers. And I tend to agree with you that this one is way up there content-wise when it comes to full team images. I'm also pretty sure that this one precedes issue #1 (which came out in June), but I do have a copy of the magazine somewhere, and I can check that out later.

BTW this Overstreet came out around GOTG #5 (I think between GOTG issues 5 and 6, I'd have to look it up)

Going by memory, the only (!) covers that had all seven members were #1, the 1992 TPB cover, and this one.

Great cover. The original Guardians were a great cast of characters, I wish we could see them back in a monthly soon. Fantastic acquisition, congratulations!

Man, the perfect Valentino and OG (Original Guardians) example! Love the different expressions on each, that speak to their respective characters. Great background choice, too. AND historically imporant as the set up for the first Guardians series! This one's got it all, as they say. And you've had it for a few years and are just now posting?! Definitely makes me wonder, even more than I already do, what else is in the Paul P vault :) Congrats!

I absolutely love this cover! Valentino's run on the Guardians was so much fun, and this is an incredible image of the team.
