DescriptionLike a lot of fans my age, "MY Batman" is Batman from 'Batman the Animated Series. I had seen reruns of Adam West, and had been just barely old enough to see Michael Keaton's Bats in the theaters in 89. But I was the perfect age for BTAS.In high school 'Batman Animated' by Chip Kidd and Paul Dini was a like a bible to me as I studied the art, story telling and filmmaking techniques of all the amazing talent involved in the show. So much that my friends and I made a little documentary where we cast each other as different crew members, quoting the book. PEAK HS AV nerd stuff and it was glorious. Bruce Timm is almost always one of my first Stops in San Diego, often grouped near other animation/comic hybrid legends I love to see like Mike Mignola and Steve Purcell. But in my first 13 years of attending the show, I never managed to be there at the right time to get a commission. Still, I would often hang around the table and watch him draw and chat with other fans and creators. Just enjoying the hang, and getting some Batman vibes by osmosis. Last year my luck changed as Bruce was offering a $20 "Quick and Crappy Batman Special". Perfect! It was quick and depending on your opinion "crappy", but it is MINE, and I was thrilled to get it. BT was kind enough to take a pic with me after as long as I thew some coin in the jar for Hero Initiative, something I'm always happy to do. Thank you BT for co-creating MY definitive Batman, and still inspiring me decades later. Social/Sharing |
