Description
Snoopy first appeared as Joe Cool in a two week sequence from 1971. This, the fourth strip showing this important persona of Snoopy, is the only original strip that I have ever seen from the first Joe Cool continuity. And even though I thought that Schulz got a bit carried away in many of Snoopy's more far fetched roles, Joe Cool not only seemed to fit in well with what one might expect from a character with Snoopy's already established personality (much along the line of Snoopy as the World War I Flying Ace) but the new visual image of Snoopy with an arrogant stance and dark sunglasses was, at least for me, more appealing than Snoopy as a helicopter, a penguin, or a pyranha, to name but a few of his other, less intrinsically natural roles.
