DescriptionWhen I first saw his art it was on Instagram back in 2016 or 17 and I was instantly curious. Dark, minimalist, supernatural, and primeval; Love’s subject matter has always stirred my imagination having held life-long fascinations with swords, kings, castles, warriors of yore, etc. After I heard Felix added him to the already stellar roster of rising art stars; I was encouraged that I might finally be able to add a piece to my collection. I entered this auction with this specific piece in mind and now consider myself fortunate to have ended up with it. Thanks be to Jeffrey and Felix. *To me, most of if not all of Love’s work has an inherently ethereal quality which I love, no pun intended. In an attempt to amuse myself, I created a simple render of what this piece could look like as a cover by playing on that esthetic. I ended up with something more ‘ghostly’ than the stock logo, which I think works. Now that I see it, I think it would make a decent cover hahaha. Social/Sharing |

Great piece! Is the checkered background inked or part of the paper? It gives the whole piece a neat effect.

Thanks! I love the effect it gives it too. I believe it might be called zip-a-tone or screen-tone? It's applied to the paper then drawn on.

Ah! Yes, it goes by both those names. It's used on a lot of older pieces. I didn't even think of it since it seems to be used so infrequently on modern pieces.

You're right, I see it pop up here and there but mostly on older art. I would love to see it more on modern stuff. I guess that's partially why I was *ahem* drawn to this piece ;)

It's likely japanese screentone used by manga artists. Felix's roster of artists also use it frequently in their commissions.
This is a lovely piece and it tempted me, especially since it wasn't marked "on hold" when I was looking at it. Congrats. I got to meet JAL this spring before everything got shut down and listen first hand about his art technique.

This is crazy awesome, Justin. There's a real coldness to Love's work - like, I feel the actual TEMPERATURE of the room drop when I look at it. It feels like a bitter, howling wind roaring over barren plains and battering into the iron walls of a black castle somewhere. Jeffrey's work is always compelling and offers up a facet or unique angle of the subject you hadn't really considered before, and this is just super. What a stunning add, Justin. Congrats! (and I like your cover mock-ups, too! :) )

Fabulous Jeffrey Alan Love illustation! I love this depiction of Ghost Rider's skull with the flames licking at it and the chains subtly added at the corners. The overall screen tone JAL used is certainly an interesting effect and works with Jeffery's esthetic. I do miss the Hellcycle, however. Fantastic pick-up!
