DescriptionI found this piece on ebay and was given a good deal on it. Neither the seller nor I knew who drew or inked it, nor what issue of Uncanny Origins it was supposed to be from. After I received the piece, I did some research. I looked through every issue of the series, and the only clue I could find was that the characters in the bottom were Bruce Banner and General Ross. They both appeared in Issue 5, which was a Hulk origin issue. So, I emailed both the artist (Pablo Raimondi) and the inker (Bill Anderson) of that issue to see if they had done this one. Pablo replied first, and stated it wasn't his artwork. Soon after, Bill responded and informed me that he did indeed ink it, and the late Dave Hoover had drawn it. They had worked on a number of issues of Uncanny Origins together and became good friends while doing so. This page was going to be part of a Doc Samson origin issue, which explains why Banner and Ross are in the story (as well as the gal in the egg in the center of the page, who I now know is Betty Ross).Dave and Bill had drawn and inked 7 or 8 pages total before Marvel cancelled the issue and went with a new creative team. It's sad that the issue was never completed or published, and sadder that Dave Hoover is no longer with us. Bill posted the 7 pages he found from this story (he thought there might be an 8th but isn't 100% sure) on his Facebook page, if you feel like looking them up. I'm thankful to own this piece of unpublished history, and that Bill was kind enough to help me solve the mystery. Social/Sharing |
