DescriptionMay 1973, Captain America #161, Page #1 Splash, Sal Buscema pencils/John Verpoorten inks, "...If He Loseth His Soul!",In this issue, Cap blames himself for losing Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon, as a friend. This scene occurred right after the Falcon told Cap in last issue that Captain America no longer needs a sidekick like him, because with his newfound super strength he can dispose of most villains without any help from him. This is one of my favorite Cap splashes. The most poignant and introspective I have seen Cap in a comic. I read this off the newsstand a year after I started reading comics. It was quite powerful stuff for any 12 year old. Social/Sharing |

So representative of Englehart's run...you can see Cao is losing trust in his main beliefs, losing his centre. Possibly the best splash of the run, IMHO
