DescriptionThought Factory Batman Poster (1977) original painting. This is an extremely rare original painting of Batman that was used for a poster put out by Thought Factory in 1977. It features a more realistic depiction of Batman at the top, with a more traditional comic-panel style representation at the bottom. This original artwork was created and used in a popular series of collectible posters that were marketed by a partnership between Thought Factory and Bill Wallen in the late 70's, with this poster artwork coming from Wallen's personal collection. It was designed and illustrated by renowned poster artist Drew Struzan. The artwork is composed of primarily airbrush and acrylic, measures 33.5" x 22.25" on sturdy art board, and the lower-left corner features Struzan's stylized gestalt "S" logo. There are a few thin creases in the artwork that are difficult to see, however these small creases can actually be seen in the final poster so are essentially part of the original art, which is kind of a fun trivia fact. The contrast between the 2 images is amazing, and pictures just don't do this one justice.Social/Sharing |

I always loved this poster. Great find!
I was fortunate to run across the auction house selling it a couple years ago, one that I had never heard of before. Only thing I have ever bought from them (well, other than a prop from a Batman movie), and I was stoked to get it!

Such an odd piece from Struzan, but really cool. It appears he copied Neal Adams panels for the bottom portion, too, which is also an odd choice. But very nicely done, and a great way to get a relatively affordable Struzan piece. The fact that the original was slightly damaged with creases prior to publication and those creases transferred to the printed posters, is also a neat bit of trivia!

Yep, and Neal actually did a printing of this poster with a head sketch in a smaller print size than the original I believe as a convention exclusive (forgetting when exactly; I don't have one, though they do pop up on eBay from time to time). It is definitely a unique poster with the pairing of the 2 images, but I absolutely love it! This painting is actually framed and hanging over my desk in my home office, so I quite enjoy looking at it!

LOVE this piece! One of the GREATEST images of Batman ever done. Had the poster on my wall for many years as a boy.
