"Stupid, Stupid Rat Creatures..."

For his "Comic-Con@Home" in July, cartoonist Jeff Smith wanted to do something a little extra for his fans. He offered several prints & special editions of collections for a limited time, and would do a very quick doodle in there, but, of course, I already had my edition of his magnum opus "Bone".

As an international fan, I couldn't pass up the opportunity, though, and I sent a fan letter through his site. Tom from his entourage was extremely friendly and helpful - like 11/10 - and got me a spot.

What always comes to mind when thinking about "Bone", is those amazing & hilarious moments between Fone Bone & the two rat creatures. Whevever the creatures are looking for food (or a nice quiche) and Fone's around, you know you're in for a good laugh. For instance, when they're chasing him around and the three of them jump off of a cliff & are clinging for their dear life to a small branch. That moment still makes me smile every time. "Stupid, Stupid Rat Creatures", indeed".

So, considering the very quick head sketches you normally got, I asked for either Fone or a rat creature, I was super surprised when I opened my package this morning. I didn't think I'd get a full on scene, featuring both characters interacting. The piece is done on a backing board, by the way.
