Superman

I always thought it was interesting how the larger comic companies have often decided to refresh their look and essentially abandoned the creators who worked with them for decades. Wayne Boring was one of those guys and by the last 60's he was essentially done working for DC, though he had been their mainstay on Superman for nearly 20 years. In his later years he sold a lot of daily strips he had worked on. He knew that Superman was the "money shot" and so when there were strips like this one that didn't have him in costume, he would simply white out over what he deemed an unessential part of the strip and draw in Superman. I was happy to get this because its a nice example of Boring's work and I also liked the obvious thing about comic art versus fine art that this shows so clearly-it's usually the character not the art (or artist) that sells and the big corporations that own them know that all too well.
