Octobriana 1976

Almost too good for a sketch...

Jim Rugg has a superb and instinctive eye for colour; and here is his latest heroine, Octobriana, astride her faithful walrus, AK47 at the ready, beautifully rendered in pen and watercolour.

This was Kickstarter reward for Jim's recent campaign for his retro-comic 'Octobriana 1976'. Octobriana is a soviet superhero, who may, or may not, have been created by Russian dissidents in the late 1950s. You can read about her existence, or non-existence, and the samizdat of the Progressive Political Pornography in Peter Sadecky's book 'Octobriana and Russian Underground' (1971).

I've a soft spot for the character, since I first encountered her in Bryan Talbot's 'The Adventures of Luther Arkwright'.
