DescriptionPencil covers on A3 paper by Carlos Gomez are rare, so I feel fortunate to look after this one. It comes from the personal collection of a gallery owner from whom I have bought a lot of art, and I am very grateful that he offered me what he called 'The best one!'.On the bottom, the artist wrote "Red Sonja 17 Cover", but it was not published until issue #18 as a variant cover. For the main cover of issue 18, Dynamite used an image of Sonja lying seductively on cheetah-skin sheets instead of this warrior image (but is anyone really surprised?) Social/Sharing |

This Sonja cover is wonderful. Beautifully drawn Red Sonja and lots and lots of skulls and lots of skulls. Dreamy

Gorgeous cover to the recent Red Sonja comic book. Carlos Gomez really gives Frank Thorne a run for his money as far as who draws the more beautiful Red Sonja.

I am glad you enjoyed this modern Sonja cover. Mentioning the Frank Thorne and Carlos Gomez versions of Sonja... you hit on my favourites for drawing Sonja; the original and the new. I have enough of Thorne's and Gomez' art displayed in my home that it is difficult to explain to visitors!
