i just received this amazing original art by argentinean gerardo zaffino (e.g., spawn, conan, dr. strange, old man logan, hawkman and king thor), who has inherited artistic genes from his late father who was a renowned artist in his own right, jorge zaffino (winter world, punisher, batman black and white, and legends of the dark knight, e.g.); in this case the son’s art is not inferior to his father’s art; as an aside, gerardo has been finding original art stashed in boxes that were gifted to his father by industry art luminaries, such as bill sienkiewicz;

writer jason aaron’s story transports stark back to 1 million bc inside a cave with neither armor, power charge to his reactor, nor his mind; and inside he also combats the avengers of that age, and the devil toys with his soul;

i’m elated at this rendered image that’s profound and far beyond the typical ironman persona in full flight with armour; rather, using the chiaroscuro technique of light-shadow representation, zaff’s depiction echoes stark’s origin tinged with spiritual aesthetics that casts ominous, dark lines in contrast to lit areas symbolic of his salvation;

There's nothing better than getting a piece of art by Gerardo! His work is so alive and always so amazing to see in person. Huge congrats on snagging this cover! It's a beauty!

Great Zaffino example, in an Avengers cover no less! A frenzy of ink strokes that somehow coalesce into a compelling-yet-haunted image.
