Description

An epic commission from Zach Howard, which was turned into a cover for the 15th anniversary of L&K (2023). Just epic. Full of numerous Locke & Key easter eggs for the uber fans, with the hot air balloon off in the distance from Guide to the Known Keys #1, the lighthouse, the Angel Key, the Owl Key, and a cameo from co-creators Joe Hill and Gabe Rodriguez (holding the robot from Rufus' Squadron Strange!)... but the true star of the show is the wolf shadow demon wearing the Crown of Shadows getting into the gargantuan slug-fest with Tyler Locke using the Giant Key.

The difficulty in inking a shadow wolf is one of the most challenging pieces of artistry I've seen, and Zach takes Gabe's creation and shows why his meticulous inking skills are the top of the industry.

This took weeks to do, with Zach live-streaming his incremental work, line by agonizing line. The feathers on Lindsey's wings are perfectly organic (even the strained look on her face pulling two grown men to safety)...but the pivot to the metallic feathers on the owl show how Zach's confident lines show through a full-on action splash page!

Congratulations Bob. I've loved the Netflix series and from what I've read so far, of the comic, it holds up well.

Your pieces from the book have been beautiful and this commission is truly next-level.
