Description

Mike Maihack is the cartoonist of Cleopatra in Space, a science-fiction adventure story. It started as a webcomic and is now published by Scholastic's Graphix. I first saw some examples of his art on his deviantart site. I bought a few things from his Operation Space Cat store. When the American Library Association Annual Conference was in San Francisco in 2015, I got the chance to meet Mike in person. I saw him at the San Mateo Library in 2018. The sixth and final Cleopatra was published in 2020. Cleopatra in Space is available as an animated series from the Peacock streaming service. One can see the official trailer on YouTube.

Batgirl and Supergirl in a teen incarnation are frequent subjects of Mike's fan art. I ordered a commission when Mike use to offer them. In October 2020, Mike drew a #SuperBatober piece every day. I loved this image of Kara and Barbara settled on a couch on a rainy night. As in one of my collecting themes, Mike depicted Barbara reading a book. The eBay auctions were staggered over one week. I won this piece on a Wednesday and complemented the "at home" setting by winning an "in costume" piece on Friday.
