Description

With the prospect of not having any Comic Cons in the near future, I set out in May 2020 to tick a few commissions off my list.

One of them was Zé Carlos, artist at Marvel on "Fantastic Four", but he also did some fill-in work on "Amazing Spider-Man" & was supposed to take over "Amazing Mary Jane" back in mid-2020.

While I quickly knew I wanted some city background, I couldn't decide on getting a Spidey or MJ piece. So we talked and Zé included a fun Mary Jane Wason cameo in this Spidey centric commission, a nod to her modeling career.

Love the angle and the dynamic, typical Spider-Man pose who shoots some webs at the beholder.

Size is 11x17 and the piece was done in traditional pencils and inks, while Zé then added some inks wash (artist's discretion). It was shared on his social media multiple times throughout the last few months, but today, it finally arrived.

Awesome commission! Love to see the supporting cast on billboards and around the city- always fun to have a JJJ "Spider-Man: Hero or Menace" or an MJ sighting.

Exactly! When I think of it and it makes sense for the artist, I try to work something like that into the piece. Easter eggs are the best!

I recently bought a "Spider-Man: Breakout" page which features over 30 Marvel villains for the easter egg reason, by the way. A little "Where is Waldo?" section but in the Marvel/Spidey universe.
