DescriptionThis almost 100 years old Bringing Up Father daily by George McManus is not only historical but having a very nice link into the numismatic history of the United States. How any numismatist didn't realised to buy this?! - I was very lucky ;-) The size of the artwork is 43,2 x 10,7 cm and signed by the artist. We need to remember that those super rare $1,000 bills were last time printed for circulation in 1934 (with other large denominations: $5,000 & $10,000 bills), so they still do exist and their face value is very valid, you can use them! :-) But... their numismatic value is much more, that $1,000 bill easily sells at $3-10,000. So, if you happen to get one, treat it carefully! Worth to remember also that $1,000 bill in 1923 had enormous purchasing power! With that bill you got 50oz 24K gold back then in 1923. Today you must pay almost $100,000 to get the same 50oz gold! Many other things had the same 1:100 ratio if looking costs back then. Think about having that $1,000 bill in your hands when a new car cost $500, movie tickets were $0.15, monthly rent $15, and so on... Maybe I should now think again that NFS (Not For Sale) status, if you happen to have a genuine $1,000 bill, I could consider trade... ;-) But now speaking about genuine, not counterfeit! ;-) And to illustrate what Dinty (the owner of Jiggs' favorite tavern) had in his hands, I acquired a set of genuine counterfeit $1000 bills ;-) The reproduction set of 1880-1918 $1,000 bills containing those which where in circulation in 1923 when this daily was published: 1880 United States Note- DeWitt Clinton, US Senator from New York 1880 Silver Certificate- William L.Marcy- US Secretary of State 1882 Gold Certificate-Alexander Hamilton-Secretary of the Treasury 1891 Treasury Note- George Meade, Civil War General 1907 Gold Certificate-Alexander Hamilton- Secretary of the Treasury 1918 Federal Reserve Note- Alexander Hamilton-Secretary of the Treasury Also, keep in mind the actual pre-1928 bills were in large size and they are commonly referred to as "horse-blankets". Those reproduction bills are enlarged even more, they are 10 3/8" x 4 3/8". Social/Sharing |
