Description
Exceptionally rare Donald Duck Dye Transfer Print from Der Fuehrer's Face. It is an original 1943 print, and also comes with the original mat and cardboard backing. From the Golden Age of the 1940's until the late 1970's or early 1980's, Disney made limited edition printed reproductions of animation cels from their animated films as high-quality prints on heavyweight paper. They were made by the dye-transfer photographic process which created a sharp and vibrant color print image on thick high-quality paper. This is possibly one of the earliest ones in existence, from the classic 1943 short Der Fuehrer's Face, and featuring a great image of Donald Duck. Nominated for an Oscar 8 other times, the incredibly popular WWII era film Der Fuehrer's Face was the only Donald Duck short to win the Academy Award. It comes in the original Courvoisier-style mat, which has tanning and general wear. It looks like it was originally taped on the back as there is the remains of a tape rectangle. The tape is no longer there, and the print is not attached. It could be affixed with archival tape, but we have left as-is. The cardboard backing is also included, and looks like it may have been framed at one point, as it has indentations in the back. The print itself is in very nice shape, and displays beautifully. The red background is a slightly darker red than how it looks in the scan. The overall size of the matte is approximately 15 3/8" by 14", with a window opening for the print of approximately 10" by 8". This is an outstanding rare vintage piece of Disneyana magic, and a magnificent example to own from the Golden Age of Disney featuring one of their most famous main characters.
