DescriptionLatest "Continuation Project" commission (and the last one for this year) - All-Star Squadron #120, art by Luis Rivera, based as always on the cover of a comic written, plotted or scripted by Roy Thomas, in this case Hulk #135, original art by Herb Trimpe.Title: "Domino Theory!" Story: In 1947, Per Degaton's memory returns. Realising that the JSA and All-Star Squadron have been responsible for his previous defeats, he determines to remove them from existence. Shooting Professor Zee and stealing his time machine, Degaton finds that he can't travel further into the future than the early 1950s as a result of a disruption in the time-stream, so instead heads back to the Revolutionary War in the 1770s. In that era, "Half-Pint" Daniel Pratt is a minor member of Tomahawk's Rangers, captured while rescuing Benjamin Franklin from Lord Shilling's clutches and due to be shot at dawn. Pratt is about to be rescued, though, by an unlikely alliance of heroes - Tomahawk himself (revealed as a previously-unsuspected earlier reincarnation of Prince Khufu), frontier heroine Miss Liberty, the native American speedster Runs-With-Lightning, and the giant automaton known as the Iron Chief (from Tomahawk #70). But Degaton takes a direct hand - disguised as a Hessian mercenary, he enters the fray and shoots Pratt dead! ...and the dominoes fall. Washington Pratt never fights at Gettysburg, although his absence doesn't change the outcome of the battle, or the Civil War. There is no Grant Pratt in Pershing's army, serving in Flanders in World War I. And Al Pratt, never born, does not become the Atom. Only nine heroes are recruited in 1940, preventing the attempted invasion of Britain and the Nazi attack on Washington - but with no Atom in their ranks, Gudra the Valkyrie faces no opposition when she enters the White House --- and kills newly-re-elected President Roosevelt! Vice-President Garner is temporarily elevated to the highest office (although FDR's 1940 running mate, Henry Wallace, will be inaugurated in early 1941) and, bowing to public and congressional pressure, outlaws all mystery-men. The first part of Degaton's plan is complete! Although I'm not much of a Hulk fan, I love this cover and it's the ideal base for a time-travel saga with Degaton --- and Luis did a phenomenal job with it. This is the first cover I've had from him, but I hope it won't be the last! Two minor continuity notes: the idea that Hawkman had previous heroic incarnations is a bit anachronistic for 1991, but I couldn't resist having him shown to be Tomahawk (real name either Tom Hawk or Thomas Haukins, depending on which version you choose), which would make his later bride, native American Moon Fawn, the reincarnation of Chay-ara (in my eyes, anyway). And my native American speedster, Runs-With-Lightning, as far as I'm concerned, is a previous recipient of the powers given to Max Mercury / Quicksilver in 1830 by a native American shaman, as shown in Mark Waid's later Flash stories --- or possibly a much younger version of the shaman himself. Using a "Hawk", a speedster, a patriotic heroine and a metal man gave me all the elements for a Revolutionary War version of the Squadron, and I just couldn't resist. Enjoy! Social/Sharing |

Great art and a fun piece of story telling. Happy New Year ( assuming we actually get through the time-storm that is 2020....Thanks Degaton !!)

Very nice commission artwork by Luis Rivera. And I agree that Incredible Hulk #135 is a great cover to homage for a piece featuring Per Degaton.
