DescriptionThis Hulk story from Tales To Astonish #78 marks Bill Everett's return to comics in late 1965, following an almost two-year hiatus after a one-off pit stop co-creating Daredevil. For this story, Jack Kirby continued his layout and plot contributions from previous Astonish issues, as he also did throughout Everett's Hulk run in 1966.Bill Everett charged out of the gate in his homecoming to comics, lavishing many of his Atlas-era flourishes and touches on these pages, before deadline pressures dictated a less sumptuous approach in some later issues. I've loved Bill's quirky and singular take on the Hulk since discovering his "The Titan and the Torment" Hulk vs. Hercules tale (from TTA #79) in Marvel Treasury Edition #5 as a kid. It's a thrill to finally add an example to the collection. Thanks, Sandy and Jim! Social/Sharing |

These are so good, something really different came out of the collaboration on this issue.

"Sumptuous" is the word. Everett threw himself heart and soul into this page. Congratulations: you are starting the new year with both barrels loaded!

You're an evil Everett hoarder... that's what you are.

This is so excellent in so many ways, I'd be here all day writing about it. Congrats on a superior page!
