DescriptionA great early cover from then rising star Nick Bradshaw.Rokkin was a 6 issues limited series released by DC through its dying Wildstorm imprint. I had been following Nick’s work for some time already (Evil dead) but he was still relatively unnoticed back then. The series was packed with Fantasy fun/elements dripping from every page despite the quite rapid rhythm of the story. I had the impression that both Nick and Hartnell (the writer) gave their everything on this series. I believe it worked well for Nick as it landed him higher profile work for the big two later on. His art was more cartoony back when as his mad on love for Art Adams hadn’t fully manifested in his style. So, less cross-hatching but a clearer line and rounder angles, more Disney/Don Bluth so to speak. And I loved it so much. This cover is quite busy in terms of composition but works for me on so many levels. The evil full mask (complete with big ass horns) Darth Vader/Baron Karza like villain with Kirby crackling energy radiating from his eyes. The struggling hero on his knees lifting a radiating (more Kirby crackles !!!) magic sword (complete with magic runes encrypted on the blade). The six maidens circle around him which works clock or counter clock wise. Is she emerging from the bubbling liquid to his side or descending into it? I love her double swords and the crossed arms positions here. Nick is a super star nowadays but his earlier work, of which you understood I was already a big fan, is worth revisiting and looking for. This is very cool to see. I am not as familiar with his earlier work, so it's neat to see where his style was then and how much it has evolved over time. Huge congrats on adding this piece!

Cool seeing some of his earlier stuff and I like your comments on it vs what we he does now. That great cartoony, animated detail has always been a staple. I know he's said that Art Adams and Mike Wieringo are big influences of his, and you can clearly see that here. Congrats!
