Original cover art for a cartoon collection by Tiikeri (1933)

Arvo Tigerstedt (1899-1969) a.k.a. Tiikeri ("Tiger") was a Finnish newspaper sports cartoonist. His career spanned almost three decades from 1929 until 1957, during which time he made more than 5000 cartoons. This cover was used for his third annual collection of cartoons, published in 1933. The subject is quite odd for a collection of sports-themed cartoons, unless it was meant to be a prophecy of the grim years to come. The additional sample, scanned from the printed book, was published on July 2nd, 1933. A few days earlier on June 29th, Primo Carnera had defeated Jack Sharkey in a fight for the world heavyweight boxing title.
